Silicon ATR FTIR

Silicon (Si) is an optical material commonly used in infrared spectroscopy but not as often ZnSe (Zinc selenide), Diamond, or Germanium (Ge). Common uses of such materials include as an ATR crystal (prism) or an optical window. Silicon, the chemical element Si, is not be be confused to the polymer Silicone. Of course, Silicon is the basic feedstock material of the semiconductor industry.

Silicon is a relatively hard material, brittle, and has a fairly high refractive index of 3.4, and a relatively narrow spectral range, meaning its practical use is reduced in the mid-infrared compared to the other common mid-IR optical materials.

ATR Infrared Spectroscopy users often require FTIR libraries and search software to help them identify a wide variety of chemicals.

We publish:

1) numerous FTIR  and ATR/FTIR libraries, covering polymers, drugs, organic and inorganic compounds, and more, either individually or in bundles. See:

Browse and filter the FTIR & Raman libraries here.

Browse the spectral library bundles here

Browse the FTIR accessory and spectral library KITs here.

2) the FDM SearchFaster™ software, for searching unknown spectra against the FDM FTIR libraries.

We offer our libraries and software via a one-time license fee or on a subscription basis.
